A Movie to remember

Therese DB

My favorite movie that influenced me is definitely “Mean Girls” (2004). This movie takes me back to many years ago when I was in high school and I was the target of terrible verbal bullying.  The actions of the mean girls in the movie represented exactly what I experienced.

I was a bit like the Lindsay Lohan character (Cady), the new girl who didn’t know where to fit in. She had to choose between being friends with the “alternative” characters who didn’t fit in or the cool girls who were so mean to everyone.

I remember being in the same situation where I had to make this choice. I the end I realized that if I chose the mean girls, I would become like them, so I chose the “alternative” friends.  I realized at that time that I needed to be accepted for who and what I was, even if people thought I was odd and different.

The strangest thing was that my daughter went through the same process when she went to high school.

One of the phrases that was used by the mean girls was “On Wednesdays we wear pink!”

My office colleagues at work also experienced similar experiences so we decided as a joke to wear pink – not on Wednesdays, but on Fridays.

(See my themed socks I found!)
