After a long winter indoors, everyone looks forward to taking advantage of spring weather. We all look forward to spending more time outdoors or simply out and about. Sounds good, doesn't it? But wait! Will some of us start backsliding in our language studies? We don't have to! Read on to find some tips and tricks which will help you keep studying and learning this spring.
Did you enjoy studing in your cozy home during the long, dark, winter evenings? This spring, you may wish to leave the house more often. When you do, you can take your languages with you. You can easily go for a walk or to a cafe and bring a podcast in your target langauge along.
Are you making more plans with friends and family this spring (like going to parks and musueums)? You can easily "bookend" these outings with short periods with your target language. If you're going to the museum, for example, you can begin a magazine article or a chapter of a book in your target language before you set out then return to it later. When you return home, you can finish. (You will find that you look forward to finding out what happens next!)
What about those bright spring mornings? If you are waking up earlier because there is more light, why not dedicate the first moments of the day to watching something you enjoy (a movie or a serial) in your target language while you enjoy a cup of coffee? Before you go to bed, you can take five minutes to read in that language. You'll be surprised how your time with your target language accummulates.
Even if you are busier in the spring, you will find that opportunities to practice your target language still abound. All you need to do is to work them into your busy day. A little listening or reading before or after tasks, in the morning, or at night will go a long way. When you finally do have a longer time to devote to your target language, you will find you've made progress.
In spring, flowers are not the only thing that blooms. Your language skills can also blossom! If you can find just a few minutes before or after your daily tasks, in the morning, or at night, you'll be amazed at your progress!
