1,111 Days of Drawing!!

Miss Ren.

This tutor column is to celebrate a personal goal: to draw something, everyday, for as many days as I can.

Originally, this project began as a 100 Days challenge. Often, people choose to participate in this challenge in order to form or break various habits, like exercising for 15 minutes or using their smartphone for less than 1 hour. (Can't relate!)

However, I decided to try this in order to keep up a drawing habit.

It started on April 7th, 2023, right before I moved back to the US from living & working in Japan. I chose this start date because the 100th day would be July 14th, my birthday! Succeeding on this challenge would be like giving myself a gift.

As of December 31st, 2025, I reached 1,000 days! (Which was an excellent way of cutting down on the difficulty of tracking the rest of the days...)

And, as of today, I have reached 1,111 days!

On the main photo, you can see some of the digital art I've drawn over the years. A lot of what I made in 2023 is no longer up to my standards or expectations for myself... which means I've improved!! I post online under a specific handle for my art. If you're also into art, digital art, or TTRPGs like Dungeons and Dragons, please feel free to reach out & I may share it with you! Odds are, my online presence is still small enough & focused on English speakers to the point where I'm still pretty anonymous.

While it sounds like a lot of time, I was only able to succeed on this challenge because I chose these rules:
  • a smiley face :) can suffice, especially when sick, traveling, or having bad days
  • nothing you draw has to be GOOD
  • date what you draw as much as possible (this was important for when I finished a long stretch & made an infographic)
  • no need to finish and/or post anything
  • bending the rules to include other artistic disciplines (mosaic, sculpture, crafting) is acceptable so long as it brings joy (<-- I used this rule rarely)
  • a 'day' is from when you're awake until you sleep; working past midnight does not count as another 'day'
I also allowed myself a 95% = success rule, but I have yet to use it!

For me, I require flexibility & adaptability. I can't do the same thing everyday before I feel like I need to tear my hair out. However, the above has worked so far!

I encourage you to reflect & create a 100 Day Challenge for yourself!

Here's the infographic I made (if it's not too big to upload...)
