Recently I'm becoming more and more interested in the culture and history of my country.
It's funny because Idstein is only 1 hour drive from my home but this was my first time visiting this beautiful city.
It is filled with well preserved old buildings. A lot of the houses are "Fachwerk"-architecture.
Fachwerk is an old German building style where a lot of wooden beams and pillars are used. And the most beautiful of these Fachwerk houses have colorful painted wood. Please have a look at the pictures below where you can see many Fachwerk houses.

But the most famous landmark of Idstein is a 42 meter high stone building called "Hexenturm" which means witch tower. It is a stone tower dating back to the medieval times all the way to the year 1170.
You can enter the Hexenturm for free and climb the steep stairs to the top. From the top you have a real nice view of the oldtown district of Idstein.

I really recommend visiting Idstein if you are in Germany and near Frankfurt because it's only 30 minutes from Frankfurt.
