The Best Way to Review? Use The Power of Three!

Weekly Topic: The best ways to review after a lesson

Ann K

After a lesson, you may feel overwhelmed.  However, there is a simple and effective way to review using the Power of Three!  Interested?  Read on.

Imagine you have just finished a vocabulary lesson.  There are so many new words and phrases that you might feel overwhelmed.  What if you did not have to learn everything at once?  There is, indeed, a more efficient way to review. Use the Power of Three.  This involves, a warm review, a cold review, and a free review which allows natural learning.

Step One: Warm Review
Review the material right after the lesson while it is fresh in your mind.  However, don't try to learn everything.  Just re-read and retain what you can.

Step Two: Cold Review
Later in the day, or the next day, review the material again.  This time, read slowly and attentively and try to retain as much as you can.

Step Three:  Free Review
Now that your first two reviews have been completed, seek out some authentic language material.  Read or listen to something in your target language.  It doesn't have to be directly related to your lesson.  After your first two reviews, you will notice that the words and concepts you have learned are everywhere.  If you like, you can read or listen again.  Just make sure you choose material you enjoy!

Now that you are in on the secret, why not try a lesson with me?  I always provide detailed feedback which you can use to test the Power of Three!
