「ともだち に あいます」 「ともだち と あいます」
この２つ、なにが ちがうか しっていますか？
じつは、この 下の 絵のようなイメージの ちがいが あります！
さて、したの 絵、「に」を つかいますか。「と」を つかいますか。

Do you know the difference between:
「tomodachi NI aimasu」
and
「tomodachi TO aimasu」?
Actually, the difference is easier to understand if you imagine it like the pictures below!
① Image of 「NI」 (➡)
I go to meet my friend.
The focus is on me moving toward the other person.
Examples:
• tomodachi NI hanashimasu。
→ I talk to my friend.
• tomodachi NI Soudan shimasu。
→ I ask my friend for advice / consult my friend.
② Image of 「TO (➡ ⬅)」
My friend and I do something together.
The focus is on doing something with someone.
Examples:
• tomodachi TO hanashimasu。
→ I talk with my friend.
• tomodachi TO soudan shimasu。
→ I discuss it with my friend.
So:
「tomodachi NI aimasu」
→ I go and meet my friend.
「tomodachi TO aimasu」
→ I meet my friend / We meet each other.
(※ In everyday Japanese, both are often possible with 「aimasu」, but the nuance is slightly different!)
