This Month's Focus
Breaking down big ambitions into small, daily actions to build consistency and confidence.

Welcome to June! A new month often brings a fresh sense of motivation. We think, 'This is the month I'll finally master English grammar!' or 'I'm going to exercise every single day!' While these big ambitions are great, they can also be very intimidating. When a goal feels too big, it's easy to not know where to start, and then... we don't start at all.

So, this June, let's try a different approach: setting small, simple, and clear goals. The power of small goals is that they are much less scary and much more doable. By completing a small task each day or week, you build a chain of success that keeps you motivated and moving forward. It's about progress, not perfection.

Why Small Goals Win

Example: English Goal
Instead of 'Improve my English,' try 'Learn and use 3 new vocabulary words in conversation each week.' This is specific and achievable.

Have you ever felt completely overwhelmed by a long to-do list? It's a common feeling. Our brains are wired to seek rewards, and big, long-term goals don't offer immediate satisfaction. This is where small goals come in. Each time you complete a small task, you get a little boost of accomplishment. This creates positive momentum, making it easier to tackle the next task, and the one after that.

How to Set Your June Goals

The key is to make your goals as clear and tangible as possible. Don't just think about them; write them down! Put them on a sticky note on your computer or in a notebook. Seeing your goal makes it real and reminds you of your commitment.

Copy-Paste Expressions

Here are some useful phrases for discussing your goals and progress with friends or colleagues.

Stating Your Intention
“I'm aiming to...” (A common and clear way to state a goal.)
“My main focus for June is...” (Use this to highlight your most important goal.)
“I'm hoping to get into the habit of...” (Good for goals related to building a new routine.)
“I've decided to tackle...” (Implies you are taking on a challenge.)
Discussing Progress
“I'm making steady progress.” (A positive update that means you're moving forward consistently.)
“It's been a bit of a challenge, but I'm hanging in there.” (An honest way to admit difficulty while staying positive.)
“I managed to hit my first milestone.” (A great way to celebrate a small achievement within a larger goal.)
“I'm starting to gain traction.” (Means that you are beginning to see real progress and results.)
Staying Motivated
“How are you holding yourself accountable?” (A question to ask someone (or yourself) about how they ensure they'll stick to their goal.)
“Let's check in with each other next week.” (A great way to create a support system.)
“One day at a time.” (A classic phrase to remind yourself not to get overwhelmed.)
“Keep up the great work!” (A simple and effective phrase for encouraging someone.)
Mini-dialogues:

Setting a Fitness Goal
A: “So, any goals for June?”
B: “I'm aiming to be more active. I'm going to start with a 15-minute walk during my lunch break.”
A: “That's a great idea! Very specific.”
B: “Exactly. I figured something small is better than nothing.”
A: “You're right. Maybe I'll join you!”
B: “The more the merrier!”
An English Learning Goal
A: “My main focus for June is my vocabulary.”
B: “Oh, are you using a textbook?”
A: “Not really. I've decided to tackle one news article in English every morning.”
B: “That's a good habit. How will you remember the new words?”
A: “I'll choose two new words each day and write them down. I want to build my vocabulary incrementally.”
B: “I love that approach. Slow and steady.”
Checking In
A: “Hey, how's that walking goal coming along?”
B: “Pretty well! I've walked every workday for two weeks straight.”
A: “Wow, you're making steady progress!”
B: “Thanks! Hitting the one-week mark was a great feeling.”
A: “That was your first milestone!”
B: “Exactly! It motivated me to keep going.”
Feeling Stuck
A: “I feel like I'm not getting anywhere with my reading goal.”
B: “Why do you say that?”
A: “I only finished two chapters this week. It feels so slow.”
B: “Hey, two chapters is more than zero chapters! Don't be so hard on yourself.”
A: “I guess you're right.”
B: “Just take it one day at a time. You'll get there.”
