Yes, you read that right - World Cup beavers. As a host city for the 2026 World Cup, Toronto has a lot going on right now, and there are plenty of interesting sights to see at the moment, but one of the most unusual might be the 51 four-foot-tall painted beavers scattered around the downtown area.
Each beaver has been painted in a unique style - 48 to represent the countries participating in the World Cup and 3 more to welcome people to Canada and the neighbourhood where they’re located. The beavers were hand-painted by artists who have a connection to the participating countries.
The beavers are also part of a scavenger hunt, and anyone can win gift cards for local businesses by participating. Although I haven’t been hunting for beaver statues, I have come across a couple of them by chance, such as the Korean-themed one in the picture above.
