A Place I’d Love to Visit This Autumn: Lake Bled, Slovenia
Have you ever seen a photograph of somewhere and immediately thought, “I need to go there!”?
For me, one of those places is Lake Bled in Slovenia.

Slovenia is a small country in Central Europe, between Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia. It’s famous for its mountains, forests, lakes and beautiful little towns. And in autumn, I think it must look absolutely magical.
Lake Bled is probably one of the most famous places in Slovenia. The lake is surrounded by mountains and forests, and right in the middle there is a tiny island with a beautiful church. You can reach the island by taking a traditional wooden boat called a pletna.
There’s also Bled Castle, which sits high on a cliff overlooking the lake. I can imagine standing up there on a cool autumn day, looking down at the blue-green water and all the red, orange and golden trees below.
And, of course, travelling isn’t just about sightseeing. There’s also food!
Bled is famous for a dessert called kremšnita (pronounced /krěmʃnita/), or Bled cream cake. It has layers of crispy pastry, vanilla custard and cream. Delicious!
Why go in the autumn?
I love places that feel peaceful and atmospheric, and autumn seems like the perfect time to visit. I’d much rather put on a warm jacket and explore a lake surrounded by colourful trees than lie on a crowded beach in the middle of summer. Also, I know from experience, Lake Bled is extremely busy during the summer months so going during autumn is perfect. It looks like the kind of place where you can slow down, walk, take photographs and simply enjoy being somewhere beautiful.
Where would you love to visit this autumn?
Would you choose the mountains, a city, the countryside or somewhere by the sea?
And most importantly… what would you eat when you got there?
