Tea from heaven - a short story

Jeru Sweetlyn

“Raju! You already drank 6 cups of tea today. No more tea.” My wife squinted her eyes as she said this. I took her hand in mine, and gave her a pair of pleading eyes saying, “Please ma…This is the last cup! I swear.” She smacked her lips and gave me a smirk, “Oh you and your charms.” She said as she got up from the chair and strolled her way to the kitchen.

Tick…tick..tick

Why do Minutes pass like years when I'm dying to satiate myself with tea? My wife’s grandmother has taught her to master the art of brewing tea. She prepares the concoction with a perfect blend of ingredients. She flicks off the stove right before the mixture touches the brim of the tea pan.

I wait.. I wait and I wait until….

Hmmmm finally! How sweet does the straining of my heavenly drink sound? There comes my beautiful wife, carrying my cup of happiness. I set the teapoy in place so that I could relax my legs and enjoy every sip in leisure.

“Careful! It's smoking hot” instructs my wife. I held on to the mug very cautiously in such a way that its head would not offend me. I rested my legs over the teapoy and let my back fall comfortably on the easy chair. The warmth of the vapour and the divine aroma from the mug kissed my face pleasantly. I softly blew the vapour before letting the tip of my lips touch the rim of the mug. The first sip of the seventh time sent me to paradise. I closed my eyes to feel the complete essence of my drink.

As I went for another heavenly sip, a stale aftertaste filled my throat. My tummy was tossing and turning like waves. I felt my organs blacking out one by one, progressively. when  I tried to yell for help, froth instead of words kept pouring out. My hands started trembling and that mug…No! 'My mug of tea' slipped from my fingers, fell to the ground  and shattered into pieces. With blurry vision, I strained to see my spilled cup of tea.

In the midst of broken ceramic pieces, I saw a lizard as dead as I'm about to be in 13 minutes.

That's about it and thank you so much for reading through :) I am from South India and hence the emphasis on 'tea' heheh. If you want to discuss more about similar things, let's connect. Send me a request and I'll accept it right away!! Have a wonderful day ahead and bye byee!!!
