The Man Who Got Me Started in a Lifetime of Music !….my first teacher, in 1964

Craig Moore

STOKED !!!  to have finally reconnected with my Music Teacher
( Kumu Mele ) from kid time starting back around 1963 !  Less than a handful of people have had more of an effect on my Life than Steve Griffin. I mistakingly remembered his last name as Goodman, I just called him Steve. Steve told me that Steve Goodman was written on the store front window next to the music studio.  I have been blessed with a few Great mentors in my 71 years but Steve is hard to beat.
I can not put words to how much music has meant to me over my long life and this is the man responsible. We started off with string #1 on a guitar and I practiced playing and reading notes E-F-G in TABlature and musical notation over and over and over. Next week was #2 string B-C-D over and over…Later Steve would share guitar solos with me every week from popular songs his night time band was performing, it was Great. We did this weekly until I walked out knowing how to take over my own musical education and career. I still have his weekly song handouts and tabs for almost 60 years somehow.
Steve also continued his musical career writing Many books published by Mel Bay solo and with his brother Neil Griffin for several different instruments, even Ukulele ! Too long of a list to post !
Thanking him has been on my “to do” list for over 50 years ! The difference Steve and music has made in my life has given me so much pleasure, comfort, fun, satisfaction and enriched my Life beyond words that I now get tremendous pleasure and satisfaction bringing music into other’s Lives, Homes, and Families…..all because of Steve Griffin.
I have thanked him privately but very proud to thank him again.
Thank You Steve, you have always rocked and you always will !
I am just one of your students. I can’t even imagine how much you have changed other’s lives too !
I am still friends with my

students from 1976. I am a lucky man.
