Happy Halloween!
Halloween in Japan Is a Little Different!?
Hello, everyone!
October 31st is Halloween!
How do you celebrate Halloween in your country?
Today, I’d like to tell you a little about Halloween in Japan.
When I was a child, Halloween was hardly known in Japan. We didn’t have the tradition of dressing up in costumes or going from house to house to collect candy.
However, nowadays, Halloween has become one of the big autumn events in Japan!
In some countries, children dress up in costumes and go from house to house saying, “Trick or treat!” to get candy.
But in Japan, things are a little different.
In Japan, not only children but also adults enjoy dressing up in costumes. People dress up not only as witches and ghosts but also as characters from anime and movies.
On the other hand, it is not very common for children to go around their neighborhoods asking for candy.
And one of my favorite things about Halloween in Japan is all the cute sweets!
In October, you can find pumpkin puddings, ghost-shaped cakes, and many other Halloween-themed treats at cake shops, cafes, and supermarkets.
Even the packaging is decorated in Halloween colors like orange and black, making everything look so cute!
You can also enjoy Halloween decorations and special events at theme parks and shopping malls.
In Japan, Halloween has become more of a seasonal event where people enjoy dressing up, eating cute sweets, and having fun, rather than a religious celebration.
It’s interesting to see how a tradition from another country can develop its own unique Japanese style!
Is Halloween in your country similar to Halloween in Japan, or is it different?
I’d love to hear about Halloween traditions in your country!
Happy Halloween!
