Description

Can you read an English passage out loud,but still struggle to explain what it means?

Maybe you understand individual words but find it difficult to understand the main idea, answer comprehension questions, work out unfamiliar vocabulary, or explain what the writer is trying to say.

This lesson is designed to help you become a more confident and thoughtful English reader.

We'll explore engaging texts suited to your level and practise understanding them step by step. Instead of simply reading a passage and answering questions, you'll learn strategies that help you understand what you're reading and find important information more effectively.

Depending on your level and interests, we may work with short stories, interesting articles, age-appropriate passages, or other engaging texts.

What we'll practise:

• Finding the main idea of a text
• Identifying important details
• Understanding the meaning of unfamiliar words from context
• Answering comprehension questions
• Making inferences and reading between the lines
• Identifying the writer's purpose or message
• Summarising what you've read in your own words
• Building useful vocabulary through reading

By the end of the lesson, you will:

✓ Understand the main ideas and important details in a reading passage more confidently
✓ Learn strategies for working out unfamiliar words without immediately reaching for a dictionary
✓ Be better prepared to answer comprehension questions
✓ Practise explaining what you've read in your own words
✓ Build useful vocabulary from context
✓ Know which reading skills you should continue practising
