English Level: A2 to C1 (scaffolded)

🎯 Learning Objectives

By the end of the lesson, the student will be able to:

  • Use travel-related vocabulary in sentences and conversations

  • Ask and answer questions about travel plans and experiences

  • Express preferences, give suggestions, and describe travel experiences (progressing from A2 to C1)

  • Use functional language for real-life travel situations (booking, directions, etc.)

🧰 Materials Needed

  • PowerPoint or Google Slides (can be prepared if requested)

  • Images of destinations, transportation, travel items

  • Screen-share for video clips or Google Maps

  • Chat box and shared document for typing practice

🕒 Lesson Plan Breakdown

1. Warm-Up & Introduction (5–7 mins)

A2–B1 Prompt Ideas:

  • “Do you like traveling?”

  • “Where have you been?”

  • “What is your dream destination?”

B2–C1 Extensions:

  • “What kind of traveler are you—adventurer, explorer, or relaxer?”

  • “What makes a great vacation in your opinion?”

Show 3–5 pictures of famous places (e.g., Eiffel Tower, beach, mountain cabin, city)
Ask: “Where is this?” “Would you like to go there?” “Why or why not?”

✈️ 2. Vocabulary Building (8–10 mins)

A2–B1:

  • Transportation (plane, train, ferry, subway)

  • Travel items (passport, luggage, map, ticket)

  • Places (airport, hostel, beach, downtown)

B2–C1 Additions:

  • Adjectives: breathtaking, overcrowded, remote, luxurious

  • Verbs/phrases: “book a trip,” “miss a flight,” “go backpacking,” “get lost”

  • Idioms: “off the beaten path,” “travel light,” “hit the road”

Activities:

  • Matching images with words

  • Mini discussion: “Which 3 things do you always take when you travel?”

🗣️ 3. Functional Speaking Practice (10 mins)

Scenario 1: At the Airport

  • Role-play:

    • A2: Check-in conversation → “Can I see your passport?” / “Where are you flying to?”

    • B2–C1: Missed flight / asking for compensation

Scenario 2: Asking for Directions in a New City

  • A2–B1: “Where is the museum?” “Go straight, then turn left.”

  • B2–C1: “Could you recommend any places to eat nearby?”

Scenario 3: Booking a Hotel or Tour

  • A2: “I need a room for two nights.”

  • C1: “Do you offer any guided tours or airport transfers?”

💬 4. Conversation Practice or Debate (10 mins)

Choose based on level:

A2–B1:

  • Talk about a trip: “Where did you go? What did you see?”

  • “Would you rather travel by plane or train? Why?”

B2–C1:

  • “Is solo travel better than group travel?”

  • “Tourism helps countries grow. Agree or disagree?”

Encourage use of linking words: First of all, However, Also, In my opinion, On the other hand...

✍️ 5. Mini Writing or Speaking Task (5–7 mins)

Prompt Options:

  • A2–B1: Write 3–5 sentences about your dream vacation. Include transport, place, and activities.

  • B2–C1: Write or speak about “A travel disaster” or “The best trip of my life.” Use time markers and descriptive language.

Optional: Type it in chat or speak it aloud

🔁 6. Wrap-Up and Review (3–5 mins)

Review Questions:

  • “What new words did you learn today?”

  • “What kind of travel do you enjoy most?”

  • “What do you want to learn about next?”

Encouragement:

  • Acknowledge effort and participation

  • Suggest next topic (e.g., “Let’s learn how to talk about food while traveling!”)
