Lesson Breakdown

1. Warm-Up 

Objective: Get students talking about their interests.
Activity: Small talk / picture prompt

Questions:

  • What do you like to do after work or school?

  • Do you have a hobby?

  • What do you do in your free time?

💡 Tip: Show pictures of people doing different hobbies (reading, dancing, playing soccer, etc.).


2. Vocabulary Introduction 

Objective: Teach 8–10 common hobby words.
Materials: Flashcards or screen images.

Target vocabulary:

  • reading

  • dancing

  • singing

  • playing football

  • cooking

  • swimming

  • drawing

  • watching TV

  • playing games

  • listening to music

Practice:
→ Say each word clearly, have the student repeat.
→ Ask: Do you like cooking? / Do you like dancing?

💬 Optional extension: Sort hobbies into “indoor” and “outdoor” activities.


3. Listening / Reading Practice 

Objective: Recognize hobby vocabulary in context.

Example short text:

“Hi, my name is Sam. I like playing football and watching TV. On weekends, I cook with my family.”

Comprehension questions:

  • What does Sam like doing?

  • When does he cook?

Alternative activity: Read sentences aloud and ask the student to guess the hobby.
Example: “I like water and moving my arms and legs.” → swimming


4. Speaking Practice 

Objective: Use hobby vocabulary in short sentences.

Activities:
🗣️ Sentence patterns:

  • “I like ______.”

  • “I don’t like ______.”

  • “My favorite hobby is ______.”

💬 Example dialogue:
A: What do you like doing in your free time?
B: I like listening to music.
A: Do you like reading?
B: No, I don’t.

Encourage full sentences and natural rhythm.


5. Wrap-Up / Review 

Objective: Review vocabulary and reinforce key phrases.

Quick quiz or game:

  • “Say three hobbies you like.”

  • “Which hobbies are indoor activities?”

  • “What’s your favorite hobby?”

Homework idea:
Write 3–4 sentences about your hobbies.
