課程介紹
Apart from conversations, articles and movies, poems are a rich source of English material too.
For one, the vocabulary, repetition and rhymes found in poems can help you improve your English speaking. If you think you grapple with a strong accent, you can definitely benefit from reciting poems.
Additionally, poems expose us to different figures of speech, literary devices and many creative ways language is used. This is very useful in enriching your vocabulary.
Studying poems is also a great way to enhance your reading comprehension. Interpreting a poem gives you that extra English challenge. It sharpens your ability to comprehend and appreciate a given text. You then get to practice expressing your ideas and insights as you dig for meaning and reflect on the poem.
Moreover, it allows you to enrich your imagination and think creatively.
From Haikus to rhyme poetry to to free-verse poems, let's experience the joy of studying English beyond ordinary language!
Lesson flow:
I will send you one poem in advance or you can send me a poem you wish to study. Don’t worry, we will study short to medium-length poems that are NOT too difficult to understand.
-I’ll have you recite the poem and guide you on pronunciation and intonation.
-We will talk about the literary devices used in the poem or we can just talk about what the poem means to you or both.
-We will also try to interpret the poem and analyze what the poet wants to convey. As we go along, we will learn new vocabulary and I will do grammar correction if you make any mistakes while you express yourself.
-Optional: As a homework, you may try writing a poem yourself and we will discuss its meaning and form during class.
-We will do all these and more as we simultaneously practice English and experience the joy of poetry.
