Discover the famous epics.
Epic poetry is a genre of literature. It is a long poem written about mythological subjects older than human memory. The most famous epic poem is called the Iliad. It was sung by Homer, and it discusses small part of the war between the Ancient Greeks and the Trojans.
In this lesson we will read through an epic from the list below. You can choose whether we will start from the beginning, or whether we will read a small section. Or, you can ask me to choose a section.
Then, we can discuss the content of the poem.
Please note: we will certainly not have time to read an entire epic in one lesson!
You can choose from:
The Iliad, written by Homer (Greek)
The Odyssey, written by Homer (Greek)
The Aeneid, written by Vergil (Roman)
The Thebaid, written by Statius (Roman) <-- My favourite
I will provide you with a link to a free English translation of the poem before the lesson.
