When we want to say something is top quality, we sometimes say that it is "good as gold". But why do we feel this way about gold, and do our beliefs about gold make sense? In this lesson for advanced learners, You will take a short vocabulary quiz and then read an essay by economist James Surowiecki that was published in the New Yorker. He makes a fascinating argument that might change the way you think about gold, banknotes, and maybe even the concept of value itself.
