About this lesson

A 25-minute casual chat in easy Japanese, for people who are learning Japanese.

No grammar lectures. No JLPT preparation. Think of it as a place to actually use the Japanese you have studied.

This lesson is for you if

- You want to speak a lot of Japanese
- You have studied textbooks but have no chance to speak
- You feel a little nervous talking to Japanese people and want a gentle place to practice
- You want to hear about Osaka and everyday life in Japan

This lesson is NOT for you if

- You want grammar explained in English (I speak very little English)
- You want JLPT or test preparation
- You want a structured curriculum

How the 25 minutes go

1. Two questions at the start (1 min)
  - Do you want me to correct your mistakes every time, or should we just keep talking?
  - Is there anything you would rather not talk about?
2. You choose a topic card (2 min)
3. We talk (20 min)
4. I teach you one Osaka dialect word at the end (2 min)

When we don't understand each other

We use text chat and translation apps. I speak very little English, but I do this with people from other countries at home every day, and it works well. Please don't worry.

About me

I live in Osaka, in a share house with people from many different countries, and I also run a small guesthouse in an old Osaka townhouse. So I talk with Japanese learners every day.

Before this, I worked for nine years as a teacher at a school for children with special needs. Explaining the same thing in many different ways was my daily job, so changing my speed and my words to match you comes naturally.

I am not a professional Japanese teacher. But as someone to talk with in Japanese, I think I can help.
