課程介紹
This lesson is a part of a series of pronunciation drills.
Its main aim is to make you more familiar with the sounds in English and go through refresher drills.
Many languages have just 5 vowel sounds. But depending on geography, English though has anywhere between 12 and 20 or more vowel sounds including those that are two vowel sounds put together aka diphthongs.
In this lesson, we will learn the more commonly used vowel sounds and do drills with them to enable us to have a better quality of pronunciation. We will also learn in which words or phrases we would normally find them.

3. The long e vs the short i
- Drill with the long A.
- Drill with the /ae/ sound otherwise known as the short A.
- What is the schwa sound? where can it be found?
- This lesson will give you a general idea of where to find them.
- The schwa in prepositions, articles, pronouns, modals, conjunctions
- The schwa in two 0r three-syllable words
- The schwa in affixes
- Drill with the schwa sound
2. The /oo/ vs the long u
- The short /oo/
- The OOK words- book, brook, cook, crook, hook, look
- The OOD words - good, stood, understood, wood.
- Other short oo words are: foot, soot, wool, pull, could
- The long /oo/ sounds
- o + consonant + e
- u+ consonant + e
- e+w
- words ending with oo
3. The long e vs the short i
- The long /ee with words ending in -y or -ies
- Words with ee, ei, ie, ea, e, eo, ique, ey
- The techniques of pronouncing the short /i/
- One-syllable words with letter i ( in between the two consonants) are pronounced with a short i.
