Description

LESSON PLAN :
  • Begin with a brief greeting and small talk to set a comfortable atmosphere.
  • Ask the student to share something interesting about themselves with me

2. Introduction to Conversation 

Activity: Discuss the Elements of a Good Conversation

  • Explain the key components: starting a conversation, keeping it going, and ending it politely.
  • Write the following on the whiteboard:
    • Starting: Greetings, questions about familiar topics (e.g., "Have you seen any good movies lately?")
    • Maintaining: Active listening, follow-up questions, sharing related stories
    • Concluding: Summarizing, expressing enjoyment, making future plans

3. Vocabulary and Phrases

Activity: Key Phrases and Expressions

  • Distribute handouts with useful phrases for each component, specifically for topics like movies and food.
  • Review and practice pronunciation and usage with the class.
  • Examples:
    • Starting: "Hi, how are you?", "Have you tried any new restaurants recently?", "What’s your favorite movie?"
    • Maintaining: "Really?", "That sounds delicious/interesting.", "Tell me more about that movie."
    • Concluding: "It was great talking to you.", "Let’s grab a bite sometime.", "Enjoy your movie night!"

 

5. Role-Play

Activity: Practice Makes Perfect

  • Provide each student with a role-play scenario card (e.g., discussing a recent movie, recommending a restaurant).
  • Have students practice starting, maintaining, and concluding the conversation using the given scenarios.
  • Rotate roles and scenarios to give students varied practice.

 

7. Wrap-Up 

Activity: Summarize and Encourage

  • Summarize the key points of the lesson.
  • Encourage students to practice their small talk skills outside of class.
  • Assign a brief homework task: Have a conversation in English about a movie or food with a friend or family member and report back to the class next session.
