Learn how to make this traditional African-American and Southern American dessert! Part One

For intermediate to advanced English Speakers:
THIS IS A SPECIAL CAFETALK VERSION of my course offered at Mrs. Davenport's Sweet Potato Pie! Just for CafeTalk students! ENJOY!
I make delicious Sweet Potato Pie just like my grandmother did ages ago, and probably like her grandmother did before her.
From A to Z, I show you how to make this traditional African-American dessert from scratch. We will have 60 minutes per class, and I will prepare some finished products for each step I teach you, so you know what it's supposed to look like.
You will need to schedule the 3rd class one day after the 1st two classes, which can be same day or also a day apart. Ask me, please, if you need help scheduling!
For example:
- Monday - Class 1 - you learn to shop for the best ingredients! You will also learn to mix the ingredients correctly and then put them aside to bake the next day.
- Tuesday - Class 2 - you learn to pre-bake your crust, pour in your pie, bake it, and put on the finishing touches (I will use a pre-made pie to show you how since your own pie will still be baking!)
- Your choice of day - Class 3 - We celebrate! Q&A - How did you like it? Sharing photos and stories!
Prepare for class by having ready the following items or having an idea of where to buy them!
- 6 big sweet potatoes
- Vanilla extract
- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
- Self-rising flour
- 2 eggs
- Sweetened condensed milk or evaporated milk
- White sugar
- Light brown sugar
- Dark brown sugar
- 1 lemon
- Large mixing bowl
- A Mixer (or a strong fork)
- Measuring spoons
- A measuring cup
- Pie crust
- Pie plates
- An oven!
