What's the object of the game?
In this lesson we'll practice the art of paraphrasing by working on how to discuss sports, fitness and related activities in clear and concise terms.
Paraphrasing is an important skill, as there are many ways to same the same thing and conversational English can be particularly challenging in this sense.
That said, sports and fitness-related activities have their own jargon and lingo, so it's helpful to be aware of them for the benefit of comprehension and clearer communication.
Learners will have the opportunity to exercise the use of synonyms, adjectives and adverbs as well as generalizations and the use of passive voice.
We'll look at sport-specific jargon and idiomatic expressions encountered along the way.
What's your favourite game or activity? Let me know and I'll be sure to incorporate it to the lesson.
The lesson will be structured to include:
- Free conversation, sharing opinions and experiences
- Vocabulary with attention to pronunciation and nuance in terms of meaning
- Model conversations with relevant vocabulary
- Reading material
- Comprehension questions
- Summaries paraphrasing the text in multiple choice format
- The opportunity to summarize freely in response to guiding questions
So wear your game face, and let's enjoy this fun and interesting lesson!
