The Piedmontese dialect can be considered a language in all aspects.
Piedmontese (native name "piemontèis", [pjemʊŋˈtɛjz]) is a Romance language belonging to the group of Gallo-Italic languages spoken in northern Italy, where, together with Lombard, Ligurian, Emilian, and Romagna, we find our Piedmontese .
What differentiates a language from a dialect is its sociolinguistic value: the Italian language is the one used in communication within the Italian Republic (and the Republic of San Marino and the Swiss Canton of Ticino); dialects, on the other hand, have more limited use, in some cases they are limited to family use.
It is also true that, it must be recognized, within the family of Italian dialects there are distinctions concerning their way of use and dissemination.
The dialect in young people
We have certainly all noticed how in Turin and Piedmont in general it is easy to hear a tight and fluent Piedmontese speak from our grandparents, from the ladies to the market, while it is more difficult to find a twenty year old who discusses in dialect with his friends or a girl who communicates. to her friend who will go to the “pruché” in the afternoon.
The use of Piedmontese among young people is limited to a few words or words, unlike, for example, the Neapolitan dialect which, in Campania, is also used by young people in everyday language.
