General Notices

Thanks to all of you, I was able to get on the new Japanese tutor rankings! Thank you so much ^_^

I am now in my ninth year since I started learning Korean, and in 2021, I obtained the TOPIK Level 6 certification. After getting married, I moved and now live in South Korea. I’m expanding my Korean studies by experiencing real-life Korean expressions and culture used in daily life!

1. From my first encounter with Korean until now

The event that led me to start learning Korean was actually “failure!”
I went to a high school focused on academic advancement, but I stumbled in my studies, and there was a time when I almost gave up because of the wide gap in grades with those around me ^^;
Every time my grades dropped, I couldn’t accept the reality, and gradually I stopped studying altogether, to the point that I ended up submitting nearly blank test sheets and fell to the very bottom of the class…

However, prompted by advice from my homeroom teacher at the time, I thought, “If I’m going to do something, I might as well learn a new language!” And since I was also into K-pop at the time, I started learning Korean. After that, I found a university where I could study abroad in South Korea as an exchange student and worked hard on my studies with this new goal in mind.

Because Korean grammar is similar to Japanese, it was easy to start with, and since the culture is a bit different, it also felt stimulating. From there, I got more and more drawn into the charms of the Korean language and culture.

When I first started learning Korean, I lived in the countryside of Ehime Prefecture, so I had almost no opportunities to encounter “Korean or South Korea.” Furthermore, my goal of studying abroad in South Korea during university went unfulfilled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, not wanting to use my environment as an excuse and believing that “I can improve my language skills even without studying abroad in South Korea,” I not only focused on input-based study but also made efforts to output by making Korean friends online and writing a blog in Korean aimed at Korean people.

2. The Appeal of South Korea That I Personally Feel

In Korean culture, I especially enjoy ceramics, Korean fashion, and music (especially works from 2015 to 2020). Recently, watching Korean dramas with a highball in hand has become one of my weekend pleasures. I also have a strong interest in cooking, and I make Korean dishes while learning authentic flavors directly from my Korean mother-in-law. I’m also very interested in Korean cosmetics and skincare, and I frequently visit the well-known O*live Young store. In this way, I experience Korean culture firsthand through its authentic culture, interactions with people, and different lifestyles.

3. Teaching Style
My lessons will primarily focus on free conversation. I will flexibly adjust the lesson content and teaching approach according to each of your levels. As needed, I will also introduce materials about Korean and Japanese culture and customs. I aim to make learning enjoyable, covering not only pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar but also practical, natural expressions and the cultural background of South Korea.

4. Lastly
Korean is a language that’s easy to get into but gets harder the more you learn. In my second year of university, I fell into a slump after failing to pass the TOPIK Level 6  twice, missing it by just a few points. Also, my father-in-law is from Jindo in South Korea, and his dialect and voice are genuinely hard to understand for me (◀︎this might come across as rude, I apologise for saying that ^^;), and all of these factors combined  makes it a struggle for me even now. Even though I’m now teaching as a tutor, I’m still very much a Korean language learner myself.
While living an exciting daily life here, I’ll keep working hard to learn more and share those experiences with everyone!

I can offer advice on self-taught study methods that I used, how I personally overcame my TOPIK slump, and more tips in my lessons, so please feel free to ask any questions!

I’ll assist you so that you can learn Korean not just as a “knowledge,” but also experience “healing through learning!”

Anyone who wants to learn Korean with me—사람 (saram = person), 이리오세요~~ (irioseyo = come over here)!
