Nao705 講師的自我介紹

Hi, I’m Nao.

Born and raised in Japan, still based here.

I have a perfect TOEIC score (990) and use English naturally in real-world settings.

English can be something you use —

yet still feel like it never fully becomes your own language.

If that gap feels familiar, it isn’t about talent, age, or timing.

It’s about how English is being processed, perceived, and built from the inside.

Who my lessons are for

My lessons are designed primarily for Japanese speakers who want to use English

as their own language — naturally, intuitively, and without constant strain.

They are especially suitable for learners who:

- Have achieved good test results, but lack confidence in real conversation

- Use English at work, yet feel they are always “just managing”

- Have studied pronunciation and grammar, but feel the sense of English hasn’t fully developed

- Are ready to start seriously and want English to feel natural, like a second native language

For professionals who use English at work,

there is a clear difference between

using English just to get through conversations

and using it as a tool for thinking, deciding,

and building relationships.

When English begins to function as your own language,

meetings change,

communication becomes more precise,

and your role at work often shifts

from reacting to situations

to engaging with them more proactively.

People come to English with different goals.

Some focus on building strong proficiency, while others are more interested in practical communication,

enjoying different cultures through language,

or making English a meaningful, long-term part of their lives.

In any case,

developing English that feels natural and usable

is a process I believe can be made real, step by step.

Teaching Focus

I specialize in:

- American English pronunciation

- English grammar

- TOEIC coaching

with the goal of building a solid foundation for actual English use —

listening, speaking, reading, and writing —

tailored to each learner’s background, goals, and situation.

I work with learners from lower-intermediate to advanced levels.

Those who are preparing to begin serious study are also welcome.

I have around 24 years of teaching experience, mainly with Japanese-speaking adults

and high school students, and I also work as a Japanese–English translator.

Learning English while living in Japan

I was born and educated almost entirely in Japan, mostly in public schools.

Although I spent short periods abroad as a child,

I could not really speak English at that time.

I didn’t attend a language-focused school.

I wasn’t surrounded by English speakers.

I didn’t major in English at university,

and I didn’t have an English-speaking partner.

So how did I get here?

Not through talent or an unusual background.

Within a very ordinary, Japanese-centered life,

I continually asked what actually worked for me —

tested it, adjusted it, and refined it.

My memory isn’t exceptional.

I didn’t rely on sheer willpower.

I took many detours and gradually shaped methods that are reproducible, not accidental.

That’s why I understand the frustrations adult learners face.

How I approach language learning

“Stop playing baseball with a cricket bat.”

When Japanese learners study English,

they often try to handle it using Japanese tools — without realizing it.

That’s like playing baseball with a cricket bat.

The equipment is different.

The rules are different.

Yet people step into the game anyway.

They adapt and improve,

but only at using the wrong tools.

True progress begins with recognizing the difference.

English and Japanese differ not only in vocabulary and grammar, but in thinking patterns, rhythm, and structure.

In my lessons:

- Pronunciation is understood through physical sensation, resonance, and rhythm

- Grammar is learned by understanding how English thinking differs from Japanese

- Vocabulary is connected to situations and meaning, not translation

You don’t need to aim for perfection from the start.

What matters is noticing the difference and gradually becoming comfortable with the right tools.

As perception shifts,

English begins to feel natural — quietly, steadily.

English is not something you simply “finish learning.”

It continues to deepen through real use and reflection.

My own perspective continues to evolve through teaching, research, and experience,

and my lessons evolve with it.

They are not fixed formulas, but are continually refined

to support learners in developing English that feels natural and usable in real life.
