Hi Students,
My name is James and I am originally from Guildford in the south of England. I currently live in Warsaw, Poland, with my wife and 5-year-old son, Julian. I am a Cafetalk veteran, having joined the platform in 2013 and delivered more than 5,000 lessons. I have been a fully qualified English language teacher since obtaining my teaching diploma in 2009 and have been teaching ever since.
I am a patient, friendly, and reliable teacher who always strives to meet each student’s needs. I love meeting new students and helping them achieve their goals. On Cafetalk, I have helped students improve their English level, pass Ielts exams with the required score, secure job offers after successful interviews in English, and build confidence in their speaking and listening skills.
I also work in the media team of a major Polish think tank based in Warsaw. We primarily conduct research on Central and Eastern Europe but also cover the USA, China, and the Middle East. Our analyses are used by the military as well as heads of state, and one of our reports was even requested by the White House. Much of our work focuses on current conflicts, such as the war in Ukraine and the Israel–Palestine conflict.
Away from work, I love travelling and experiencing life abroad. I have lived in London, Paris, Rome, Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Sardinia, and Warsaw. I also studied Spanish a year in Salamanca, Spain and gained a Spanish language diploma.
I have travelled widely across Europe, South America, North America, and parts of South-East Asia. I also love music and have a large vinyl collection featuring some of my favourite artists, including The Beatles, The Smiths, David Bowie, Elton John, Paul Simon, Amy Winehouse, and Frank Sinatra.
I studied filmmaking at the University of South Wales and graduated with a 2:1 bachelors degree. You can see one of my films about a street magician named Angelo here: http://vimeo.com/groups/dft/videos/5234396
My favourite films are Lawrence of Arabia (1962) and The Godfather (1972). I also enjoy Japanese cinema and have seen several Kurosawa films.
I enjoy reading, and my favourite books include Don Quijote, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and books by Ernest Hemmingway. I also enjoy playing and watching sports such as football and tennis, and I have a broad interest in subjects including art, history, politics, and culture.
Looking forward to meeting some new students!
James
Q. Hi James, how are you? Could you give us a quick self-introduction? A. I’m good thanks. I am just about surviving the heatwave in Poland! Well I am 29 years old, English but currently living in Warsaw, Poland. In fact I have been quite nomadic the last few years. After gaining my TESOL English teaching qualification in 2009, I started teaching in Sardinia, Italy before having a stint in London...
