Hello, my name is Recel, and I’m excited to be on this language-learning journey with you! I can’t wait to learn more about you, hear your stories, and work together as we improve our English skills. Let me tell you a bit about my own journey and how we can make this experience amazing!
My Passion for Teaching ESL
I’ve been teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) for seven years. My main goal is to create a friendly and welcoming classroom where students feel comfortable speaking English. I focus on having interactive conversations, helping students grow their vocabulary, express themselves, and join in meaningful discussions. I believe teaching is not just about sharing knowledge but also about building strong, supportive relationships with my students so we can learn together.
My Path as a Teacher: Learning and Connecting
When I first started teaching ESL, I didn’t realize how rewarding and life-changing it would be. Over the years, I’ve taught students from all over the world. While I’ve worked with many different learners, I feel especially connected to students from Japan. This connection has helped me understand their culture better and create lessons that fit their needs. I’ve learned how to challenge my students while also making them feel comfortable in the class.
Growing as a Teacher: Learning to Adapt
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the value of being flexible. Every student learns differently, and it’s important for me to adjust my teaching to fit their needs. I also understand the struggles my students face because I wasn’t always fluent in English. When I started learning English at 21, it took a lot of effort and practice to gain the confidence to speak. This experience helps me relate to my students and see them as partners in learning, not just learners.
Although many Filipinos speak English well, I wasn’t one of them at first. I only started improving when I committed to learning the language seriously. As I began teaching others, I realized that helping them learn also helped me grow, creating a cycle of learning for both of us.
Building Relationships Through Teaching and Learning
Looking back on my journey as an ESL teacher, I’m proud of how much I’ve grown—not just as a teacher, but also as a learner. I believe teaching is more than helping students improve their language skills; it’s about building lasting connections and a sense of community. My message to students is simple: learning a new language takes patience, practice, and persistence, but the rewards are worth it. We’re not just learning words; we’re building trust, relationships, and a shared sense of purpose.
I’m excited to continue this journey with you. Every lesson is a chance for us to grow together, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds as we continue working toward understanding.
