Hi I'm Teacher Aqeelah.💕 I have been teaching for 10 years.
I completed my Degree at UCT in History and Mandarin Chinese. My Mandarin Chinese class was the first ever group of graduates on Chinese at UCT and that was super exciting. I also studied Math, Physics, Chemistry up to First year university level. I studies Geology up to second year level and my science is still one of my most loved subjects till this day. My heart feels happy when I am learning how science acts and reacts in our world.
After university I felt the need to explore the world in 20s. My goal was to meet as many people as possible, to learn as much as I can, to travel as much as I can. I wanted to see different people and places, so I moved to South Korea to teach English and travel in Asia. South Korea is country I respect so much! and I am grateful I go to live there and call it home for a few years. I cherish my memories and the friends I made.
I traveled to Hong Kong, Russia and had not the chance to visit Japan but I hope I can go there one day.╰(*°▽°*)╯. When I returned home to South Africa I wanted to educate myself again so I studied Islamic Studies. Learning and being a student makes me so happy, my intention to learn in order to understand.

Every student can learn but those who reflect, make connections and ask questions without arrogance will always reach the truth. So I believe that you can do it! My students are curious, kind, powerful, dynamic people. They love learning and have a passion for making the world a better place for everyone. They communicate with beauty and patience, and they are also not afraid of doing hard things, learning hard things to create a beautiful life for themselves.

Who am I?
I am a reserved Cape Malay Muslim Women, from Cape Town, South Africa. I'm figuring out motherhood for the first time with my 1 year old baby in colorful Bo-Kaap. Have you ever heard about Bo-Kaap? My house is more than 100 years old and officially a historical treasure of Cape Town because of the History of the Dutch Slave trade, my ancestors are from Indonesia, Java mostly and many other locations of the east. I am excited to share my unique history with you and I appreciate that my students allow me to be myself!

My hobbies:
I have become obsessed with reading. My goal is always to read 100 books every year. My favorite novel of all time is Frankenstein by Mary Shelly. I was blown away by how a simple monster story can make me think about the meaning of life, the importance of our choices and most importantly taking responsibility for our actions. I believe we should be more intentional choices we make. When our intentions or rooted in productivity and goodness, we are on the right path to reaching our best self and achieving our dreams.

My Dream:
My dream right now is work on my language skills. I want to be conversational in Japanese. I feel so confident and happy when I'm learning a new language. I lived in South Korea for 4 years and can also say a few words and sentences in Korean, However, my listening skills are way better than my speaking😂
