TESL Certified with Educational Background in Linguistics/Anthropology.

Hi everyone, I am Ishan. I grew up in Kathmandu, Nepal and then went to college in New York, USA. I was born and raised in an English and Nepali bilingual environment. Currently, I live in the city of Kathmandu.

I have been teaching English and Nepali languages for more than a year now. I like to research on new and different teaching-and-learning methods and use them in my lessons. Right now, I am interested in the method of "language aquisition through comprehensible input". In this method, students learn by listening to and reading new information in a story form, which has proven to be one of the most effective methods of learning a new language.

I like reading fiction. Some of my favourite authors are Murakami Haruki, Jhumpa Lahiri, and Colson Whitehead. I also love writing short stories. I maintain a regular story blog where I upload my work.

I leant Hindi by watching a lot of Bollywood movies. Nepali and Hindi are similar in grammar, therefore, it did not take me a lot of time and effort to be fluent in Hindi. Later, I studied Arabic in university for two years. Right now, I am self-studying Japanese through the method of "comprehensible input".

I can play the piano and the guitar, and am generally interested in any genre of music. I like to discover new music, especially music made by new artists.

I also have a small garden where I am currently growing tomatoes, potatoes, beans, and coriander. Being in my garden makes me feel happy and grounded.

I also love walking and traveling in a budget. As of now, I have been to the United States and India. I would like to see more of the world if I ever get a chance to travel.

Here are some areas that I can help you in:
- Free conversation in the area of your interest (eg: daily life, pets, eating out, shopping, etc.) [English/Hindi/Nepali]
- Language tests: Duolingo TestIELTS and TOEFL (106/120)
- Academic test: SAT (1460/1600)
- Methods of learning a new language, particularly English
- Writing a CV/resume or cover letter
- Middle school and high school English, Mathematics, and Essay Writing

My lessons are student-centered, which means that I will try my best to find out with your needs are and how you learn the best, before planning my lessons.

I am here to help you learn at your own pace and achieve the best possible outcome :)
