Hello and welcome to my profile!

About me: 

My name is Shane and I live in Cape Town, South Africa. I have not had the opportunity to travel overseas, but I would love to visit Japan one day. The next best thing is to be here for you on Cafetalk!

I am calm, patient, non-judgemental and a good listener. I respect a person's privacy and I will take you seriously.

I love cats and rabbits. I spend my free time writing fiction, playing video games, watching anime, movies and live-action series, listening to podcasts about mental health and doing research on anything that might interest me. I really do enjoy learning.

Educational background: 

1) I have a degree in Psychology from the University of South Africa.
2) A Level 5 TEFL Diploma (Teaching English as a Foreign Language.)
3) I have also worked with computers as a repair technician for over 10 years.

- With a background in Psychology, I am passionate about helping, listening and understanding other people. I want to provide you with a comfortable, relaxed and judgement-free online environment. I take confidentiality very seriously and I want you to feel comfortable talking to me. Whether we are practicing our conversational English, your interests, life or anything that is troubling you: I am happy to listen, talk and be there for you.

- Teaching English inspires me to communicate with other people more. There is so much that we can learn from one another and I think that even the smallest of conversations can be very valuable. You can always be kind, learn something about yourself, improve your confidence, make a good impression and even make new friends.

- Working with computers for so many years taught me a valuable lesson about problem-solving: We can keep trying until we find something that works. Sometimes things can be very straightforward or they require some creative thinking. I like to keep an open mind at all times with my potential learners. 

Teaching style and lesson structure:

My lessons focus on:

1) Conversational English.
2) Life advice. 

Firstly, I would like to help you improve your proficiency with day-to-day communication in English and how to navigate certain social situations. If you have a certain situation, event or scenario in mind, then we can work on how best to approach that. This is a relaxed environment and I am very patient, so there is no need to feel pressured. We all learn at a different pace.

Secondly, are you feeling lonely, anxious, lost or just need someone to talk to? I would be grateful to listen, understand and talk with you about anything that might be bothering you. Whether it's difficulty with relationships, friends, colleagues, self-esteem, finding your way in life or anything else that comes to mind. I would be grateful to be there for you and it is 100% confidential.

My lessons are open to all students, from various levels of experience and all ages are welcome!

I would like to have an introductory lesson first, just to get to know each other and figure out what we should be focusing on.

At the moment, my lesson plans will be flexible to your needs, but I will be adding more structured lessons and expanding into new areas as my own experience grows.

Please let me know if you would like to use a webcam or just audio on your end. The same applies to me, would you like to just hear my voice or see me as well? It's your preference.
