Sujin9 Tutor Profile

Learn with a former social worker in their 10th year of counseling
“Don’t worry about getting stuck on words: Stress-free, reassuring Korean language learning.”

Hello to all Cafetalk students! I’m Sujin, a Korean language tutor. ♥♥

For the past 10 years, I worked as a social worker in South Korea, interacting with a wide variety of individuals, listening to their stories, and providing professional counseling and education.

When learning a new language, I understand better than anyone the anxiety that comes with thinking, “what if I make a mistake?” or “how should I say this?” My lessons aren’t a rigid exam prep where you’re only expected to give the “right” answer. Instead, they’ll be a warm “psychological safety zone” where you can feel comfortable making mistakes while learning. Drawing on the patience and active listening skills I’ve cultivated over the past 10 years, I’ll wait patiently for you until you feel relaxed enough to let the words flow naturally.

As a JLPT N1 holder myself, I empathize 100% with your frustration and nervousness in learning a new language.

I myself started studying Japanese as a hobby in my 30s and earned the JLPT N1 certification. I still vividly remember the sense of frustration I felt when I tried to speak with a native speaker after studying only through textbooks, and that trembling nervousness I experienced when I took my very first online lesson.

However, once I stopped fearing making mistakes, my world changed completely. I would truly like to share that joy with all of you. Precisely because I was a student myself who took online lessons for a long time, I can accurately understand what learners need most and where their pain points lie from a learner’s perspective. I’m fluent at an everyday conversational level, so please feel free to ask me questions in Japanese anytime! To help you learn effectively, I’ll continue to study Japanese diligently and keep growing myself.

For Systematic and expert-level lessons

I double-majored in archaeology (history) and social welfare at university and hold a Level 1 certification in the Korean History Proficiency Test. As a result, my strength lies not only in language instruction, but also in my ability to provide broad and in-depth explanations of Korean culture and history.
I also have extensive teaching experience. Over the past five years, I have worked as an instructor of history and social studies for elementary, junior high, and high school students. Additionally, while working as a certified social worker, I spent five years conducting rights education for children and child abuse prevention education for adults.
Currently, to further my expertise in teaching methodology, I am pursuing a degree in “Korean as a Foreign Language” and systematically preparing for the Level 2 Korean Language Teacher Certification. With a strong educational background and specialized knowledge, I will teach you Korean in a way that is easy to understand and sounds natural.

How lessons are conducted

1. 100% customizable! Lessons tailored just for you
Every learner has different goals and preferred learning styles when it comes to studying Korean. Through a pre-lesson questionnaire and a trial lesson, I’ll take the time to thoroughly discuss your current level and needs. I’ll then propose learning goals and methods perfectly tailored to your individual learning style. Even if you’re thinking, “I don’t know where to start,” please feel free to join me feeling relaxed.

2. Beginners who are nervous about conversations are also welcome to join!
Do you feel shy or overwhelmed when trying to start a conversation in unfamiliar situations? Don’t worry! I’ll use a variety of teaching materials and resources to help guide the conversation smoothly. As you naturally talk about your thoughts and feelings from everyday life, that sense of pressure of “What should I say?” will melt away like snow.

3. It’s perfectly fine to use Japanese for difficult topics!
If you feel frustrated because you can’t express yourself well in Korean, please feel free to switch to Japanese at any time. I’ll help you smoothly rephrase those subtle emotions and nuances you wanted to convey into natural Korean expressions that get your meaning across. I’ll also help you practice thoroughly so you can truly master those expressions.

4. Zero review burden! A perfect feedback system
Don’t worry if you don’t have time to review amid your busy daily life! I’ll compile the mistakes you made and useful expressions covered during the lesson and send them to you as a “Feedback Text.” In the next lesson, we’ll use this feedback to practice speaking again (speech training), so even if you join the next lesson without the stress of prep or review, your skills will improve rapidly.
+ For those who want homework, I can provide plenty tailored to your level and needs! :)

I sincerely look forward to welcoming all of you to my lessons.

While guiding and interacting with my Japanese friends who are studying Korean, the moments when they told me, “It’s really easy to talk to Sujin” or “She teaches Korean culture in a way that’s easy to understand and fun,” were the happiest for me.
Rather than simply memorizing vocabulary and grammar, I’ll teach you in a fun way by weaving in the “culture and context,” explaining exactly what kinds of situations Koreans actually use those expressions in. I’m looking forward to having a pleasant first conversation with all of you on Cafetalk. See you soon!
