Hi there, need natural English??  Search no further!!

My name is Neil, and I have been teaching English in Japan for 18 years, with 13 of those being at the internationally renowned English school Berlitz. While teaching at Berlitz, I had many responsibilities, including mentoring and lesson planning for both kids and adults. I was also in charge of the kids' program at my local language centre and have gained a great deal of experience teaching both business English and English for everyday use.  I am fully TESOL certified (all the way back in 2008!) and am constantly searching for ways to imrpoved my teaching abilities.

Prior to coming to Japan, I worked in the estate agency business in the UK, dealing with many kinds of people. Though ultimately unfulfilled by this career, I decided to take a break to find my passion and took a working holiday to Australia. This is where I discovered my love for teaching English, through talking with backpackers from Japan and Korea and helping them with their studies.

I specialise in all kinds of English teaching—from conversation classes to Eiken or TOEIC preparation. If you have any special requests, such as English for hotels, travel, homestay, etc., please ask, and I will try my best to either create a custom program for you or recommend a great textbook we can use in class. I have solid experience teaching business English and have worked with a wide range of students during my time here, from newly hired employees to CEOs!

I firmly believe in the tried-and-tested method of total immersion, so we will conduct all lessons in 100% English (with some exceptions for children and students who are visibly struggling). This might seem a little difficult at first, but you will get used to it and become fluent much quicker than if you rely on Japanese to help you through. Communication outside of class can be done in either English or Japanese via email.

My main aim is to ensure that you have fun and understand that learning a language doesn't have to be overly serious.

No-shows will be charged at the full rate. However, we all know there are times when the unexpected happens, so please feel free to contact me if you couldn't make it to a lesson for any reason.

  • Cancellation possible at any time without charge.

After request is confirmed (fixed)

  • More than 24 hours before lesson start time.→ Cancellation is possible at any time.
  • Less than 24 hours before lesson start time.→ The tutor may take a cancellation fee.
  • No-Show→ The tutor may take a cancellation fee.
