Hello! I am Gethin, a native English and Welsh speaker from Cardiff, Wales. I`m currently teaching English at an intermediate level in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I am also learning Spanish and some Portuguese. Some of my passions and interests are music composition, rock climbing, football, book, cinema, and history.
I taught in a Welsh language primary school for 2 years. As most of the children weren`t from Welsh-speaking families, teaching language was a huge part of the job. As of this year, I qualified as a TEFL teacher. Four weeks ago, I started to teach an intermediate English class here in Buenos Aires.
My teaching style revolves around the concept of the flow state. In my two years working in primary education, I specialized in working with additional learning needs children. What I learned the most from this was that a state of flow induces full concentration and a much greater capacity to learn. It's the perfect balance of something being challenging, without being too difficult. I also try and use different methods to engage the mind, such as some of my lessons in which we describe and compare abstract videos or concepts.
Teaching English to children really taught me how to pick up on slight inaccuracies in language, and also how to cater to a student's needs; everyone is different!
Learning short sentences has helped me to improve my Spanish; it is one of my favorite methods. This gives the verbs context, adds new vocabulary, and makes the language roll off the tongue!
Lastly, I will look for etymological similarities between English and your native language and use them as a base to get the memory flowing with the new language. With all this said, the lessons will be conversational and relaxed so that you can flow and feel comfortable.
I only teach people over aged 14 or older.
I offer a 15 minute trial lesson.
Lessons can be booked and can be booked 24 hours in advance.
