Hi! My name is Candice (or Nina), a bilingual English & Japanese teacher. I am a Japanese-American from Tokyo, Japan, and have lived in Metro Vancouver for 15 years.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Cognitive Systems Program at the University of British Columbia (UBC). After graduating, I worked as a research assistant, manager and instructor for an analyst training program, and a manager of an animal charity, before coming back to UBC as a staff member.
I flew back to Japan in 2023, and started teaching at Cafetalk in the spring of 2024.
【Teaching Style】- Since I have a background in coaching, I support students in achieving the goals they have set for themselves. Therefore, most of my lessons involve talking about a given subject rather than following a textbook. Sometimes I provide the topic, and sometimes the student provides the topic.
- My students work in a variety of fields such as education, medicine, and art, so I strive to cater my lessons to match each student's context.
- I studied linguistics while in university, and found the International phonetic alphabet extremely useful, so I use the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) chart in my pronunciation lessons.
I look forward to meeting you :D
Feel free to follow me on
instagram - I write in both English and Japanese.
