Hello! My name is Lee Hye-won ^^

My name is a little tricky to pronounce, isn’t it?
Please feel free to call me “Hey Ssam (Teacher Hey)” instead!
“쌤 (Ssam)” is a term often used in Korea to address teachers in a friendly way.

When I was 20, I traveled the world alone with just a backpack for about 10 months and visited more than 20 countries.
I love meeting new people, talking with them, and learning about each other’s cultures.

There are still so many countries I’d like to visit, so once my daughters are older, I hope to go on more trips with my family.
Since my children are still young, we often travel within South Korea now.

  • My lessons are designed to help you learn Korean naturally through relaxed conversation. I believe the ideal way to learn a language is to follow the same process that young children use to acquire a new language. This is the general sequence: listening → speaking → reading → and finally, writing. Let’s start by listening, imitating, and speaking, then gradually move on to reading and writing!

  • Whether you’re an absolute beginner or someone looking to practice speaking more naturally during a conversation, feel free to reach out regardless of your level. Let’s work together to create a simple, fun lesson tailored to each individual.

  • We can also chat about traveling, everyday life, or each other’s dreams and hobbies. (By the way, my hobbies are karaoke and board games.)

  • If you have a favorite K-pop artist or Korean actor, I think you’ll have a great time learning expressions that real Koreans often use while watching interviews, variety shows, and dramas together.

  • For those planning a trip to South Korea, I’d like to share some of my recommended tourist spots. Even if you don’t have any travel plans, I can introduce you to places that Koreans frequently visit, as well as hidden gems known only to insiders. I also think lessons on common phrases used at restaurants and cafes during your trip, as well as essential Korean for travel, will be very helpful for traveling the country.

  • Drawing on my own experience teaching Hangul while reading books aloud to children, I also recommend reading Korean picture books and children’s books together that are suited to the your current level, and learning the vocabulary and expressions that appear in them. I even have plenty of books at home!

  • My lessons focus primarily on Korean, though I’ll use some English as well to teach. Of course, I’ll explain things slowly and clearly based on your current understanding level, so please don’t worry. After all, it’s pointless if you can’t understand what’s being said! I’ll make sure you’re exposed to as much Korean as possible, within the scope of what you can understand. You’re welcome to use Japanese in our chat as well.

  • If you have a preferred learning style, please let me know at any time. Even if you’re not sure yet which learning method suits you the best, let’s talk it over together and find an approach that’s most interesting to you, fun to stick with, and effective.

  • When you take an online lesson for the first time, you might feel a little nervous, awkward, or anxious. I’ve taken online lessons myself, so I understand exactly how you may be feeling now. That’s why you don’t need to worry about making mistakes at all in my lessons. Just relax, have a casual conversation, and gradually build your confidence, as that’s all it takes. Go ahead and make as many mistakes as you want! :)

  • Every student has their own unique goals and learning pace. That’s why I don’t offer fixed-session packages. Since everyone has their own idea of what “I’m satisfied once I reach this point!” means, you can simply add lessons as needed, at your own pace.

  • I’m here to help you discover a wider world through language learning. I think taking on new challenges is truly wonderful! I’m cheering you on!

  • Whether you want to learn more about South Korea or make new friends while learning Korean, you’re always welcome in my lessons!
