Hello, my name is Simon. I am originally from Canada, and I have previously lived and worked in Toronto and Hong Kong before settling in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

I hold a 120-hour TEFL certification and have extensive online teaching experience, including working as an online English tutor on an online platform since 2020, where I have maintained a rating of 4.8 out of 5. Through thousands of lessons with Japanese learners of all ages and proficiency levels, I have developed strong listening skills, patience, and a friendly, relaxed teaching style. Prior to online tutoring, my professional background was as an independent filmmaker, university researcher, and lecturer, which gave me a deep appreciation for communication, storytelling, and academic discipline.

I want to teach on CafeTalk because I enjoy creating fully customized, flexible lessons tailored to each student’s individual goals—whether that means natural spoken English, discussing cinema and literature, or building confidence for academic and professional growth. CafeTalk’s platform allows me to offer diverse, engaging lesson formats that cater directly to students' unique interests in a supportive and encouraging environment.

My Teaching Style

My lessons can be adapted to suit your level and learning goals.

• Provide gentle corrections during our chat so you will notice patterns or mistakes, or

• Focus on fluency and highlight new vocabulary.

We can chat about any topics you are interested in, be they travel, daily life, international news, arts and culture etc. I can work to improve your conversation skills, or work on business English goals such as job interviews, client visits or meetings with colleagues.

  • Less than 24hours before lesson start time.→ 100% of price charged.
