Hello, my name is Simon. I am originally from Canada, and I have previously lived and worked in Toronto and Hong Kong before settling in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
I hold a 120-hour TEFL certification and have extensive online teaching experience, including working as an online English tutor on DMM Eikaiwa since 2020, where I have maintained a rating of 4.8 out of 5. Through thousands of lessons with Japanese learners of all ages and proficiency levels, I have developed strong listening skills, patience, and a friendly, relaxed teaching style. Prior to online tutoring, my professional background was as an independent filmmaker, university researcher, and lecturer, which gave me a deep appreciation for communication, storytelling, and academic discipline.
I want to teach on CafeTalk because I enjoy creating fully customized, flexible lessons tailored to each student’s individual goals—whether that means natural spoken English, discussing cinema and literature, or building confidence for academic and professional growth. CafeTalk’s platform allows me to offer diverse, engaging lesson formats that cater directly to students' unique interests in a supportive and encouraging environment.
