Hello everyone !

While I’m waiting for my husband to get out of the onsen (hot spring) , I’ve decided to take the chance to catch up on my trip blog for my tutor column !

Day 4 : We started by exploring the  the Oga peninsula in Akita prefecture , this is really an interesting area with lots of culture and nice views 1.  We visited Godzilla rock and 2. The main culture of namahage we went to the culture centre and learned about namahage and even watched a live reenactment if what happens in Dec 31st . They spoke in their native dialect and my husband who’s Japanese said he only understood about 30% of what they were saying ! Good thing we were both given a translation :) . Then we headed north to the protected world heritage area of shiragamisanchi which was a long drive through the depth of the woods (which is why I had no service / Oga peninsula also had limited service for my phone) to see some protected swamp area and unique breeding ground of the Blue Forest Frog which has its babies in bubbles in trees above the ponds in the woods .

Then we finished the long crazy drive by mountain road into aomori prefecture and Hirosaki city, when  enjoyed the night view of the Hirosaki castle and found the city mascot also wearing a homemade mask :)

Then we headed off to the next road station to sleep in our car for the night. We are also in Apple area of Japan. I also grew up in Apple farming area in Canada where we have an Apple blossom festival every year ( except this year due to COVID-19) . Yet still I was surprised the apple orchards here are more like apple forests !! I’ve never in my life seen so many apple trees !
