Pot wash!

每週主題: A memory of my first part-time job

2020年8月5日

I got my first part-time job when I was very young. My next door neighbour owned a catering hire company. People would go to the company to hire fancy plates, glasses, cutlery, tea cups, napkins, table cloths and more for their events. Some people would hire for their wedding, while others would hire regularly for their own venues.

The work was not glamorous. I was a pot washer. I would wash and dry and polish all of the dirty plates and cups and cutlery. Sometimes the plates would be returned with half eaten meat still stuck to it. It was quite disgusting! Sometimes the plates would be left for a weekend before being washed, which gave the dirty stuff a horrible smell!

These were the bad hirers.

Some nice, good people who hired from us would give them a quick wash before returning them to us. We loved these people! Of course, we still had to wash them again, but there was so stinky old food attached to them, which was fantastic!

The work was tough but my boss was kind and fair. She was always good to her workers.

I worked there during school holidays from about the age of 15 to when I went to university at 21.

How was your first part-time job? Do you think it was better than mine? Leave me a comment below :)
