Back to school

2020年9月8日

Today is the first day of school in Toronto.

My kids have been waiting to see their friends for months.  Since the pandemic in March, they have been doing online learning at home, and then we had a two and a half month summer holiday.

The school is taking precautions and has implemented a system to ensure social distancing.  First of all, parents are no longer allowed inside the school.  Secondly, there is a different drop off spot for each grade, and the homeroom teacher will be waiting there, checking each student's temperature.  My kids are in grades 5 and 6 respectively and they each bring their laptops so they don't have to share the school computers.

Other safety measures include minimizing classroom furniture and separating the desks.  Students will no longer eat lunch at the cafeteria, but instead, they have to eat in their classrooms.  They will be taking all lessons in their own classrooms except for gym class.  Before the pandemic, they took specialty classes (French, music, art) in the specialty classrooms, but now, the specialty teachers will go to their classrooms.

With schools now being open, the Government expects a rise in infection cases, but it can't be helped.

Let's keep our fingers crossed!
