Ace your job or university interview!! Part 24

2020年9月12日

Hi, over the next few weeks I will be publishing regular advice on how to ace your job / university / MBA, or PhD interview. If you would like to book a lesson with me, I will provide you with a 28 page document that I have written with some sample questions and advice on how to answer them. In these articles that I am publishing, you will find a group of questions and the appropriate advice on how to answer them, and in some cases you will even find some sample answers. During a lesson, I will go through the questions with you, let you answer as if you were in an interview environment and then I will check, and if necessary, correct the content of your answer. I hope you find the following information useful and I really look forward to seeing you online if you choose a class with me! I am also offering a 20% discount for any new students for ANY of my lessons.

·       Convince me to hire you……

This is your chance to sell yourself to your interviewer. Do not make outlandish claims that the company will suffer if you are not hired. Try to make yourself sound unique, stand out from the other candidates and focus on achievements from your previous jobs that are transferrable skills you can carry across to the new post.

·       Why shouldn't I hire you……

In reality, this question is not likely to be asked, however, if it is, you may give a light-hearted reply like making colleagues jealous of your performance or the fact that your manager’s manger may wonder why you were not hired a long time ago.

·       What is your favourite game/sport?

The interviewer may ask this question just to see what type of sports competition you are into. Aggressive sports like boxing may indicate an ultra-competitive, testosterone-driven individual, whereas a strategic game like chess may indicate a deep-thinking individual who considers every move he or she makes with intelligence and forward planning. Whatever answer you give, remember your interviewer is trying to gain an insight into your psyche with regards to teamwork, individuality, aggression, or compliance.
