How to Start Reading in a New Language

2020年10月8日

Think of yourself as a child. How does a child learn a new language?

First, the child starts listening to the adults. Then the child tries - some of what the child speaks is correct and some of it is incorrect. The child receives feedback from the adults and then learns from their mistake.

Then comes the reading part. The child starts reading picture books. It has lots of pictures and little words. This is how I started improving my Arabic. I started reading words with pictures next to them.

After the child has mastered this, the child then moves on to stories taught in elementary school. I often make students read Little Red Riding Hood when we are going over new vocabulary. This is because these stories offer new words to the learner.

After mastering this level, the child then grows up more and then can read middle school level stories and then high school level. You do not have to be middle school age to read middle school literature as a child. Some child love reading and so they start reading beyond their level when they are small.

Happy reading, and if you are intersted in reading together, here is a lesson that I offer: https://cafetalk.com/lessons/detail/?id=351273&key=0d64f02e8bd7d1e7e71e9fcbcc87b060

It will help you improve your reading skill, your vocabulary, and you will have fun!
