This topic really got me thinking.
When I set a new goal, or when I try learning something new, I am all gung-ho about it for a few days, a few weeks at most. Then sometimes I lose my motivation.
If it is something that I have to do, I have to stay focused.
Here are some ways to increase motivation.
1. Write down my thoughts. Why did I lose motivation? Is it too difficult? Is it fear of failure?
Writing down my thoughts help me understand myself better. By answering my own questions, I have a better idea of the situation. Sometimes I can come up with an alternative.
2. Set mini-goals if possible. If the ultimate goal seems too far to reach, I set mini-goals.
3. Reward myself for little progress. A $5 latte from Starbucks is usually my reward.
4. My mood affects my way of thinking. I make sure I have enough sleep and exercise because it affects my mood. When I am in a good mood, everything seems possible.
5. Focus - If I feel I don't want to do it, or I can't do it, then I try to remember why I started doing it in the first place, and how I felt at the beginning.
If it is something that you have to do and cannot quit, and you are having a bad day, tell yourself "tomorrow will be a better day". Sometimes I add, "It has to be.."
