Good night's sleep

Hello, everyone. How's it going? This is Teacher Asuka.

I recently read an interesting article about this question from a seven-year-old child. An expert from Victoria University answers the question. The question is: 'What happens to our brains when we don't get enough sleep?'. What do you think?

It's said that sleep debt causes us to have 'brain fog' because we can't concentrate on anything, so we're absent-minded. There is a possibility of a decline in learning function and attention. Lack of sleep deprives us of mental stability and brain health.

The main hypothesis is that the nerve cells called the neurons in our brain don't work well in our brain. Therefore, the brain doesn't work well and people may suffer from diseases such as mental disorders.

By the way, how long do you sleep? Is it around 7-8 hours? The expert suggests that adults need 7-9 hours of sleep in a day except for children. Children need more time to sleep than adults. They need over 10 hours. Babies are said to need 17 hours of sleep.

What can we do to improve the quality of our sleep, what do we do? The expert tells us that we should get into the habit of going to bed and getting up at exactly the same time. Remember that you do not have to sleep longer than usual. For example, sleeping longer at the weekend won't make you healthier. Another piece of advice: don't use your smartphone or the internet before going to bed. Blue light screens make us sleep badly.

If you feel tired, go to bed early instead of staying up late. A good night's sleep helps us to work well and in a good mood. And don't forget to eat well and exercise.

Thank you for being with me as always!

See you next time.
