Five YouTube channels that I’d recommend you to watch!!

Tutor Mercy

Watching videos is not only an interesting way to learn but also a passive approach to improve your language. Here are some channels on YouTube that I found interesting and I’d encourage you to watch as well.

#1 English Fairy Tales

This channel has stories suitable for those learning a new language. Now watching the video will definitely help you understand the story and give you exposure to the target language.

While you may not understand all that’s being said, it helps you get familiar with the rhythm and stress pattern of the target language. You’ll be able to catch some common verb endings and so on. For eg: Most Korean sentences end with 있어요 (issoyo) or 입니다 (imnidha).

Not just English, but there are channels such as Chinese Fairy tales, Arabic fairy tales and so on. Pick your target language and get started!!

If you’re a beginner you can watch the video in a language you're familiar with and then in the target language.

#2 Josh Otusanya

The channel being owned by Josh is one in which most videos are short ( You Tube shorts). He provides valuable advice on being more confident, working on yourself and also other life hacks. As he presents them in language that’s clear and easy to understand, learners will definitely find it useful. But hey, don’t just stick to watching but try to apply it as well and I’m sure you’ll see a change.

#3 Omar Agamy

In this channel, you'll find Omar having a conversation with flags of different countries (yea, they have a face). It gives you a lot of information and updates about different countries in the world presented in a really creative way. You should definitely give it a go.

#4 Dhar Mann

This channel consists of videos similar to short films I’d say mainly focused on some morals and life lessons. Based in the US, this helps you get familiar with the pronunciation and intonation of American English. There are people from different ethnicities too featured in these videos so it will give you exposure to different accents. Be it listening, or learning new words and expressions, these videos are definitely helpful.

#5 English With Lucy

This is a channel run by Teacher Lucy from the UK. This is suitable for learners who want to learn expressions, grammar rules and even some tips to master the British accent. You can take notes while watching the video but the teacher provides a PDF along with every video which is really useful.

You can check them out and see for yourself how they help you with your language.

Here’s a quick activity for you:

Watch a video (preferably a story) and try to narrate the story that you just watched in your own words. You can record it as you do. This will help you understand your language level and where you need to improve!
