Dahl for the Season

2023年11月1日

A great book to read for the season is any of the books written by Roald Dahl. His work tends to be rather fantastical. His fantasy style is great for the October/Halloween season.

The book “The Witches” is about a seven year old boy from England moving to Norway. There he lives with his grandmother who teaches him about witches. It is very fantastical story. The boy encounters some witches and begins to battle them. This story also is inspirational because a young boy and his grandmother find the courage and strength to fight the mystical power of the witches.

A very well known book “James and the Giant Peach” is also inspiring. A young boy who lives with his cruel aunts escapes in a very big peach. He is able to escape his sad life and begins an amazing journey. Along the way he meets many fantastical creatures and faces many hardships. He does not give up and finds he has more strength in him than he knew.

Another book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” gives us morality. In the book many of the children misbehave and receive punishment for the behavior. Charlie also faces some moral decisions and sees the consequence of his actions. It is a very good moral tale. This book is great for the coming Christmas season as its morality is similar to Santa Claus. Santa Claus also morally teaches children that good behavior is rewarded and bad behavior is punished.

What do you think of Roald Dahl? Have you read any of his books?
