My Time as a Game Show Model 

Did you know I used to be a game show model? I had a very interesting and unforgettable experience working as a model on an NBC daytime game show called Time Machine. It was a brand-new production filmed at NBC Studios in Burbank, California, and hosted by the well-known celebrity John Davidson. I was one of two female and two male models on the show.

Our job included various assignments, but one of the most memorable parts was presenting the prize vignettes. For example, if the prize was a barbecue set, we would act out a cheerful backyard scene. If it was furniture, I might gently highlight the sofa to make it look as luxurious as possible.

The most exciting part of our work was wearing costumes once worn by Hollywood legends! I was fortunate enough to wear Elizabeth Taylor’s gown from Caesar and Cleopatra. Other costumes had been worn by stars such as Audrey Hepburn and Doris Day. I honestly can’t think of another job quite like being a game show model—it was truly one of a kind!

At that time, The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson was also being filmed at NBC. The other models and I would zip around the studio lot in golf carts, rushing from one set to another. We shared hair and makeup rooms with newscasters, soap opera actors, and sitcom stars—all part of NBC Television. Having professional hair and makeup done every day was such a treat, and I had an amazing time working there!

I’d also like to share a funny story about how I got the job. During the original audition, there were hundreds of beautiful models from all over the world. Many of them were tall blondes chatting about their dreams of appearing in Playboy Magazine. I had a different background—I was classically trained in theatre at UCLA—so our goals didn’t quite align. The only thing we all had in common was wanting that job!

At my first audition, the producer gave me a sharp look and asked, “Are you always this nice?”—as if it were a flaw! When I was called back for the second audition, she challenged me again by asking, “Do you look like this when you get out of the shower?” This time, remembering her tone, I decided to show her a bit more edge. I replied with a cheeky grin, “Not exactly— it looks like "~expletive~"!” (*Please use your imagination, but it was a bad word). That seemed to win her over, and to my delight, I got the job!

It was a fun experience, and the pay wasn’t bad either! Thank you for letting me share one of the most memorable chapters of my life.

ゲームショーモデルとしての私の思い出 ??

皆さんは、私がかつてゲームショーのモデルをしていたことをご存じでしたか？
私はアメリカ・カリフォルニア州バーバンクにあるNBCスタジオで撮影された昼のゲームショー『タイム・マシン（Time Machine）』という番組でモデルとして働いた、とても興味深く忘れられない経験をしました。この番組は、有名な司会者ジョン・デイヴィッドソンさんがホストを務める新しい番組で、私は2人の女性モデルと2人の男性モデルのうちの1人でした。

私たちの仕事はさまざまでしたが、最も印象に残っているのは「賞品紹介シーン」の演出でした。
たとえば、賞品がバーベキューセットなら、楽しい庭でのバーベキューパーティーのシーンを演じました。家具が賞品の場合は、ソファをやさしくなでて、その高級感をアピールしました。

仕事の中でも特にワクワクしたのは、ハリウッドの伝説的なスターたちが実際に着用した衣装を着ることができたことです！
私は映画『シーザーとクレオパトラ』でエリザベス・テイラーが着たドレスを身につけました。他にもオードリー・ヘプバーンやドリス・デイといった大スターの衣装も登場しました。
ゲームショーモデルという仕事ほど特別でユニークな仕事は、他にないと思います！

当時、NBCでは『ザ・トゥナイト・ショー（ジョニー・カーソン司会）』も撮影されていました。私たちモデルはゴルフカートに乗ってスタジオ内を駆け回り、いろいろなセットを行き来しました。ニュースキャスターやドラマ俳優、シットコム俳優たちと同じメイクルームやヘアメイクルームを共有しており、毎日プロのスタイリストにヘアメイクをしてもらえるのは本当に贅沢で、最高の時間でした！

そして、オーディションでこの仕事を得たときの面白いエピソードもあります。
最初のオーディションには、世界中から何百人もの美しいモデルたちが集まっていました。多くは金髪で背の高いモデルたちで、「いつかプレイボーイ誌に出たい」と夢を語り合っていました。
私はUCLAで演劇を専攻していたので、少し違う価値観を持っていましたが、みんな共通して「この仕事が欲しい！」という思いだけは同じでした。

最初のオーディションで、プロデューサーは私を鋭い目で見つめ、「あなたはいつもそんなに“いい人”なの？」と皮肉っぽく聞いてきました。
二度目のオーディション（コールバック）のとき、その同じプロデューサーが再び私に挑戦的な質問をしました。
「あなた、お風呂上がりもそんな感じなの？」
そのとき私は、彼女のトーンを思い出して少しユーモアを交えて答えました。
「いいえ、こんな感じじゃなくて……もっとひどいですよ！」（笑）
（※実際にはちょっとした“悪い言葉”を使いましたが、ご想像におまかせします。）
その瞬間、彼女は笑い、私は見事に採用されました！

とても楽しくて、お給料も悪くありませんでした。
こうして私の人生で最も印象的な思い出のひとつを皆さんにシェアできてうれしいです。
