Japan has convenience stores, called konbini, almost everywhere. For Japanese people, they are such a normal part of everyday life that we hardly think about them.

Can you guess how many convenience stores there are in Japan?

Believe it or not, there are about 56,000 of them!

Convenience stores are very useful for Japanese people, but recently they have also become extremely popular with tourists from around the world.

Here are some of the reasons why.

1. They're open 24 hours a day.

Many convenience stores in Japan are open 24/7, so if you need something while you're traveling, you can usually buy it anytime. It gives travelers peace of mind.

2. They have a huge variety of food.

You can find rice balls (onigiri), sandwiches, bento lunch boxes, bread, snacks, drinks, desserts, and much more.

Not only is the food affordable, but it's also surprisingly delicious!

These days, many visitors enjoy trying Japanese food at convenience stores.

3. The hot snacks are delicious!

Near the checkout counter, you'll often find hot foods like fried chicken, karaage, steamed pork buns (nikuman), and grilled chicken skewers (yakitori).

They're inexpensive, tasty, and perfect for eating right away.

4. They offer many services besides shopping.

Convenience stores also have services such as ATMs, parcel delivery, photocopying and printing, and ticket sales.

If you run into a problem during your trip, a convenience store can often help.

5. Why they're especially great for tourists.

Convenience stores are convenient for everyone, but here are a few reasons they're especially useful for visitors.

• You can usually pay with credit cards or electronic payment methods.
• You can buy things you suddenly need, such as phone chargers, umbrellas, or face masks.
• Some stores have restrooms that customers can use. Just ask one of the staff members.
• You can also find seasonal products that are only available for a limited time.

Japanese convenience stores are much more than just places to buy food.

They're incredibly helpful whenever you need something during your trip.

日本には「コンビニ」がたくさんあり、日本人にとってはどこにでもある、当たり前の店になっています。
日本にはコンビニがいくつあると思いますか。

なんと…、約56,000店もあります！！

コンビニは日本人にとっても便利（べんり）ですが、最近は海外からの旅行者にとても人気があります。
例えば、こんなポイントがあります。

①日本のコンビニは24時間営業
多くのコンビニが24時間開いているので、旅行中に必要（ひつよう）なものがある時はいつでも買い物することができるので、安心です。

②食べ物の種類（しゅるい）がたくさん
おにぎり、サンドイッチ、お弁当、パン、お菓子、飲み物、デザートなどいろいろなものがあります。
それだけでなく、値段（ねだん）があまり高くないのに、味（あじ）もおいしいです！
最近はコンビニで日本の食事を楽しむ旅行者がたくさんいます。

③ホットスナックがおいしい！
レジの近くには、からあげ、肉まん、焼き鳥、フライドチキンなど温かい食べ物も売っています。
これも安くておいしいので、買ってすぐに食べるのがおすすめです！

④買い物以外のサービス
ATM、荷物を送る、コピーや印刷（いんさつ）、チケットを買うなど、買い物以外のサービスもいろいろあります。
旅行中に困（こま）ったことがあっても、コンビニに行けば安心です。

⑤外国人旅行者へのおすすめ
 日本人にも便利なコンビニですが、旅行者には特（とく）にこんなところがおすすめです。
・クレジットカードや電子（でんし）マネーが使（つか）える。 
・充電器（じゅうでんき）、傘（かさ）、マスクなど急に必要になったものも買える。
・トイレが使える店もある。（店員さんに聞いてみてくださいね）
・その季節（きせつ）でしか食べられない商品（しょうひん）がある。

日本のコンビニは食べ物を買うだけのお店ではなく、旅行中に困ったことがあった時にも便利なお店です。
