I celebrate my birthday during autumn, which has become a time for me to slow down and look back. I usually find myself thinking about where I am, what has changed, and what I want for the year ahead.
This year, I want to do something a little different. Instead of visiting a place that everyone knows, I want to spend my birthday somewhere I can simply walk around and see what I find.
I have been wanting to rediscover the Philippines. We have so many towns with their own stories, food, traditions, churches, and old homes. I sometimes wonder how many places I have passed by without really seeing them.
So this year, I am going to Sariaya, Quezon.
Sariaya is a coastal town with heritage homes, churches, local cafes, and a beach where I can watch the sunset. I do not have a long list of things I need to see. I want to walk around, take photos, try some food, visit a cafe, and let the day unfold.
Maybe that is what I want this birthday: a day without rushing from one attraction to another. Just a chance to visit a town, learn a little about its story, and see my own country with fresh eyes.
And perhaps, while I am rediscovering Sariaya, I might discover something about myself too.
